Find the Best Location for Your Cell Phone Signal Booster Antennas

In this post we discuss how to find the best locations for your cell signal booster antennas in order to assure optimal system performance.

Check out this video from weBoost in which Kolton from the weBoost Customer support team demonstrates how to find the best location to install cell signal booster antennas, inside and outside.

Correctly placing your outside cell signal booster antenna provides optimal communication with cell towers for the best booster performance. But first, you must first find out where your cell carrier’s nearest tower is located. We’ve previously done a couple of blog posts and a video explaining how to do that. Links to those are below.

Tower (outside) antenna location
Once you know your carrier’s nearest cell tower location, you’re ready to find a location for your tower antenna. There are two types of outside cell signal booster antennas – directional and omni-directional. Here’s a video that explains their differences and the advantages of each.

For either tower antenna type, the preferred location is the roof of the building. Mounting the antenna on the roof minimizes obstacles between your location and the tower. That’s important because anything between you and the cell tower can block the signal and hinder your cell reception.

If a roof location is not an option, place the tower antenna outside the building on the wall facing the direction of the cell tower. If that’s also not possible, it may be acceptable to place the antenna on the inside of a window on the side of the building facing the tower.

Device (inside) antenna location
The inside cell signal booster antenna, sometimes called the device antenna, should be placed the in the room or the area where you most need improved service coverage.

There are two types of device antenna – desktop and panel. The desktop antenna rests on a flat surface and provides signal coverage for one to two rooms. The panel antenna covers a larger indoor area. It’s typically mounted on the wall or ceiling of the room most needs improved cell coverage.
